Michael Paler (Independent)

Osborne is where I live and would like your support for the 6th May Election.

I have been involved with the community of East Cowes over the years as a Councillor. I have had the privilege to work with so many people in different ways with the help of other services on the Island for our community and also working with other councils on projects and committees. This has also been an opportunity to engage with Academy and Colleges around the island doing interviews for work placements. There are very talented youngsters around that have to have a chance to grow for the future of all our communities.

There will be many ideas coming forward for Osborne, we need to work together to make it good for everyone.

I have been working with the East Cowes Crafters, East Cowes Community Partnership and Isle of Wight Society who all make positive events for the community, decorating the town in colour throughout the year. I have also taken part in web seminars with Portsmouth University for a green vision for the Island and their plans looking to the future. Sea works at Southampton Marina where we have had local firms taking part on a world stage to show their shipbuilding expertise.

We have companies in Osborne that have built Ribs for the Antarctic expedition survey as one example. This is a time to enhance the opportunities to move forward for all.

There will be a new Community hub in East Cowes which I would like to be involved with to build with the experiences of the past few years. This will be a place to sign post people to all types of help. Mental Wellbeing is going to be very important in the future. We have mental health first aiders from our volunteers from the hub.

At the end of March 2020 Karl Love and myself were tasked with setting up the East Cowes and Whippingham Covid Support Hub which I coordinate to this day. I always knew East Cowes had a good community spirit but never more so over the past year. I am immensely proud of everyone who has helped in numerous ways and still continue to do so. Through the Hub I have worked with the IOW Council, the NHS, local Medical Practice, Government Departments and the other twenty six support Hubs. I am now at the Riverside Vaccine Centre and seeing the people who have not been out since the first lock down.

Over the past year I have been able to meet many people in the Community who are looking for a brighter future for our Town and Island. To that end I would ask you to place your confidence in me as the Osborne Town Councillor and County Councillor.
