I’m Stephen Reynolds and I am the Reform UK candidate for Shanklin Central.
I am a hotelier in Shanklin and I have lived on the Isle of Wight my whole life, having been the
proprietor of numerous Island businesses over the years.
There are many reasons I am standing; the principle one being that the Council is not delivering
what the residents of Shanklin and the wider Island want and need. Road closures should be better
managed and parking policies relaxed to encourage footfall in our shops and businesses. Utility
companies should be engaged in making sure that works are carried out at the same time, to reduce
the constant digging and refilling of the same patches of highway. The tourism industry brings so
much revenue to our town, and we must ensure that is enhanced and encouraged to boost the local
economy.
I believe the main issues at County Hall is a lack of transparency and accountability. The public is
not informed enough with what goes on behind those doors. I want to bridge that gap, to represent
your concerns and ask challenging questions to ensure your tax money is being well spent. I want
common sense solutions to return to County Hall and the council to develop a strategic businessmodel
which benefits the whole of the Island’s community.
