The reason I have decided to stand as a councillor for the ward of Parkhurst & Hunny Hill is quite simply that I really care about the area I have lived in all my life.
I was born in St Marys Hospital, I first went to school at Hunny Hill Primary & Kitbridge, and later trained at the IOW Technical College.
As a child I spent many happy days playing down the old cement mill & Parkhurst Forest with my friends from the prison estates. I have very deep roots in the whole area as my grandfather on my mother’s side had Werrar & Chawton Farms, and her uncle Ron had Parkhurst Dairy.
My father’s best friend Eddy had Dodnor Farm and it was through the farming community that he met my mother. He worked in Frank Cheverton’s and in 1964 started Stag Lane Motors which My family and I still run to this day.
It is recent events and the seemingly disregard for public opinion that I decided to stand. I’m just and ordinary person who has just had enough of the way our money has been wasted by the present council, and instead of just moaning about it, as someone who has run a business, I want to try and do something about it.
This Island has so much to offer, especially in the tourist sector, we have beaches, the countryside, lovely villages, it’s a beautiful place and I just want it to stay that way for the generations to come. I am standing for Reform because we need a more common-sense approach to how things are run and I’m not frightened to take on the difficult challenges which I will inevitably face.
