I am Emerson Maguire and I am standing as your candidate for Reform UK in Newport
Central.
Although not a born-and-bred local, I have chosen the Isle of Wight as my home and am in
my 15th year of living and working in our glorious Island. I share your experience of Council
services and the bills that pay for them. I am standing because I want Newport Central to be
a place where families can build a future, businesses can thrive, and Council services work as
they should.
In Newport Central, residents see every day the challenges facing our town centre — empty
units, cleanliness issues and the need for a safer, more welcoming environment for families
and visitors. As a Councillor I would work constructively with businesses, the Council and the
police to push for practical improvements that make Newport a place people want to spend
time and money.
I have a particular, professional, interest in jobs, skills and the local economy. I have a history
of supporting Island jobs for Island people and believe the ongoing investment in the skills
and competence of our young people is essential for generating year-round employment
opportunities. We need to give families a reason to stay on the Island, the ability to earn a
decent living, to progress in a career, not just struggle from season to season.
Newport Central needs homes that local families can actually afford to rent or buy, built to
the right standard, in the right places, and with proper infrastructure. Development must
respect existing neighbourhoods and be shaped with residents, not imposed on them.
At the other end of the demographic spectrum, with an elderly and unwell parent I
appreciate the value of the social care and in-home support that the Council provides. Is this
as good as it should be? I want clearer accountability, better communication, and as your
Councillor I will challenge poor performance when services fall short.
Make your voice heard, make a positive choice for how you want the Isle of Wight Council to
be run, how the services you and your family rely on should serve you better. Make your
vote count on 7 May
