Les Kirkby

My name is Les Kirkby, I am a married father of two and have worked my whole life. I have lived
on the Island for the past 55 years, and right here in the ward of Haylands & Swanmore for the last
46!
Last year I completed four years as a Ryde Town Councillor for Haylands & Swanmore; I learned a
lot, however I also realised that there is only so much you can do as a Town Councillor to really
improve the lives of local people. In order to make real change for the better across the Island it is
necessary to be an Isle of Wight councillor, and this is what prompted me to stand in these local
elections. I am fed up with the ever-increasing council tax bills for little return.
If, like me, you want the Isle of Wight Council to take accountability for their waste and
mismanagement, then please consider giving me your vote. Over the last ten years we have been
represented by a Conservative who lives over the other side of the Island.
If I am elected I am a short walk away, in the heart of our ward. I will be open to deal with any of
your questions or requests at any time. I know how important accessibility and accountability from
your local councillor is. At the last local election I lost by just 9 votes. That is why it is so important
to take this chance to have your say and use your vote for change. Every vote counts.
If you want a hard working, dedicated and truly local person to represent you at the council then
please go out and vote for me on May 7th. It’s time for our voices to be heard at County Hall and
it’s time for change.
