I’m Mark Nigh and I am the Reform UK candidate for Chale, Niton and Shorwell
I am a proud son of the Island with family roots tracing back to 1654 and beyond. My surname
Nigh, means “next to the water” – a fitting symbol of my deep ties to these coastal and rural
communities.
After a distinguished 30-year career in the Metropolitan Police and Hampshire Police, protecting
families and neighbourhoods on the front line, I have decided it is time to stand up for those same
communities in a new way.
I have seen first-hand how national and local failures are hurting our villages: ever-rising council
tax with little return, unaffordable housing driving young people away, failing roads and footpaths,
unreliable transport, and planning decisions that ignore residents and worsen flooding risks around
Niton. Enough is enough.
My key pledges for Chale, Niton and Shorwell are
• Real value for council tax; slash bureaucracy and force fixes for potholes, broken street lighting,
and flooding blackspots.
• Protect our countryside: sensible planning that puts local residents and farmers first, preventing
inappropriate development that increases flood risk.
• Keep young people on the Island: support better transport, safe routes, and real opportunities so
the next generation can afford to stay and thrive.
• Fix the fundamentals: safer roads, reliable buses, improved footpaths, and effective flood defences
that actually work.
I am not a career politician: I am a committed local with deep Island heritage and a proven record of
protecting communities.
Real local representation. Real change. No more excuses.
