My name is Terry Wing, and I am the Reform UK candidate for the ward of Binstead and Fishbourne.
I began my working life as a 15-year-old apprentice. I joined the Territorial Army at 17 and had a 38-year military career (reserve and regular) including an operational tour in Iraq. After retiring I managed the UK-wide Volunteer Cadet Corps (founded 1901, for ages 8-18) and became its first Lt Colonel, Commander VCC reporting to the 2nd Sea Lord.
I spent several years as a school governor at a special needs school providing advice on funding and specialist building facilities.
At the same time, I became a trustee of the Duke of Connaught Trust; providing funding and assistance to reserve forces and cadet organisation in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight areas.
Five years ago, I retired from the corps and bought a farm on the Island. Shirley and I run a smallholding and a holiday business with 3 cottages. As many of you undoubtedly are too, we are currently facing challenges such as rising costs, poor roads and access issues on the Island.
I am a firm believer that the Island offers a unique work/life balance and I hope you will give me the opportunity to utilise the qualities of loyalty, courage, determination, respect, integrity and commitment I gained throughout my life in the voluntary sector, business and my military career to help improve the opportunities and quality of life of Binstead and Fishbourne residents.
